Training in Action - Training Programme 2010
Leadership and Facilitation Training
(2010LFT): Training in Fundamentals of Group Work and Leadership
Many of us spend a considerable amount of our working life in groups and meetings. In groups, there is often anxiety – in the leader as well as the participants. All kinds of worries can come up and prevent us acting to the best of our abilities. In fact, all groups develop in ways that are recognisable and predictable. We can learn to understand what is happening, and how to best respond to tricky moments. Having a clear model for what is happening helps us be less anxious, more creative and more flexible.
This training is for you if you work with or would like to work with groups in any professional setting. The training will expand your ability to participate fully and freely in any group situation. You will increase your capacity to stay relaxed and connected while running a group.
The course serves as both an introduction to group work and as a refresher for those who already have group leadership experience. Participants will reflect on and use their own experiences as a basis for learning.
The principles taught can be applied to any kind of group, and will include:
- Planning, preparing for and beginning a group
- Facilitating interaction and responding to group process
- Valuing and working with conflict and difference in a group
- Closing a group
We will focus on group work theory, role theory, sociometry, and leadership styles through teaching and supervised practice. Participants will complete both written and practical assignments to consolidate their learning.

Psychodrama Training
(2010PDT): Experiential training in the psychodrama method
This programme is aimed at developing excellence in the theory and practice of the psychodrama method. This method assists people to work with groups and individuals in therapeutic, educational, creative and organisational settings. The training is also of value to those in leadership positions in their professional life. Trainees can expect to gain significant personal development as well as professional skills.
Training in this method takes place through integration of theory and practice by a process of supervised experiential learning. The curriculum is based on the material set out in the ANZPA Training Manual and includes teaching, practice, coaching and supervision. It is expected that people entering training already possess an established professional identity or are in the process of working towards their primary qualification.
Peer Groups
Organised peer groups are part of the training process, assisting trainees to practice and integrate their learning. The peer groups meet fortnightly throughout the year and are available to all trainees enrolled for the year.
