Training with Training in Action Dunedin

The Purpose of Training

The aim of training is to bring about an integration of theory and practice through the supervised experiential learning of Psychodrama, Sociodrama, Sociometry, Role Training, and Group Work, which is then applied to the trainee’s chosen profession.

Training in the psychodrama method and/or group work will assist those in leadership roles to develop their abilities. They will be enlivened and challenged to expand their creative edge and professional competency. Through a greater awareness of their own behaviour and the development of leadership roles, a network of satisfying relationships will be developed and sustained. Psychodrama is primarily a group method. Developing an appreciation of group dynamics is therefore fundamental in psychodrama training. Specifically trainees learn to recognise and value the sociometry which occurs in groups and work with this both as group member and leader.

Application for Training

This is done in three stages:

  1. Written Application: Write to us stating your training experience, training goals and specific focus for the coming year. A deposit must accompany enrolments; this is fully refundable if you do not proceed to training.
  2. Training Interview: On receipt of the application all new trainees and trainees moving to a new programme will be interviewed.
  3. Acceptance into the programme: Your acceptance into the training programme will be notified by letter following completion of the first two processes. Your place will be confirmed by the payment of fees.

Accreditation

The process of accreditation is described in the ANZPA training manual, and involves both written and practical assessments.

Programme

An up to date training programme can be obtained by contacting the Administrator.

Who Can Enter Training

Trainees come from a wide range of backgrounds such as counselling, psychotherapy, education, pastoral care, social work, medicine, clinical psychology, psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, community work, law, management, organizational development, personal work, theatre, outdoor pursuits and politics. They come from many areas of life and work in which people are learning, changing, and relating to others. As places for each training event are limited, early enrolment is advised.

Training Hours and Records

A record of completed training hours is kept for all trainees enrolled in the annual programme. Training hours are given for training workshops, some experiential workshops and through attending supervision with a recognized supervisor.

Library

There is a range of books, articles and theses, which may be borrowed from the Institute for one month at a time. Overdue books attract a fine.

Supervision

Supervised practice is an integral part of all training in our programme. Supervision is available individually or in small groups. Training hours are credited when approved Institute supervisors undertake the supervision.

Individual and group supervision sessions are available from the Institute staff and other approved supervisors. A suitable supervisor is selected in consultation with the current trainer.
