Many of these events will involve the psychodrama method and some will use other active group work approaches to assist us to navigate the challenges in personal and social life. Each event is an invitation to a form of conversation and an exploration where participants can think together without focusing on outcomes. By this means, it will be possible to create new understandings and meanings in ways that are sustaining and life giving.

At the heart of these events are opportunities to come to know and express our own experience and to connect with what really matters to us. The work involves an enquiry that links the personal with the social and cultural dimensions of living and holds a valuing of our own humanity at its centre.

On being an animateur

The word animateur comes from the Latin word anima meaning a current of air, wind, air, breath, the vital principle, life, soul. Aristotle made the distinction between that which is alive and that which is inanimate and identified the presence of psyche, which has been translated as soul, breath or life as belonging to that which is alive. To animate, be animated is to express vitality and spontaneity, stir the imagination, kindle ideas and possibilities that are latent and bring them to life.

Animateurs are recognised by their capacity to breathe life into various aspects of our culture. These individuals organise, enliven and encourage social, cultural or artistic projects and activities and are therefore concerned with notions of community development and community education. Animateurs are interested in developing the abilities of individuals and groups to participate meaningfully in the social, cultural and political realities in which they live. For the animateurs participating in the 2017 events see below.

What’s the news?

In this open session we will explore our relationship to the news as well as what has been affecting us recently.

We can be rather isolated as we listen, watch or read the news and most often we do this in somewhat private settings. This session will create an opportunity for some exploration of this aspect of our social life in a group setting and to let ourselves think and feel about events in the news without being overwhelmed.

Psychodrama and group work methods will be used.

When: Monday evening 13 March. 7pm – 9pm

Where: Level One. 35 Victoria St. Wellington CBD.

Fee: $20.00

To enrol: Send name and address to admin@wpti.org.nz and Glenis will send you the bank details.
